Do you ever have those days when you have nothing to wear? Sometimes I totally flip out and have clothes in heaps all over my bedroom by the time I actually find something to wear. I hate those days when I have tried on everything in my closet and everything looks horrible. Do you have those days? I do. A lot. I used to just go buy new clothes to wear at the last minute as a remedy to this problem. Ok - sometimes I still do, but I have done MUCH better.
Some of you may ask, where does one buy a last minute outfit in a small town? It is quite the dilemma. In a town with no mall, no department stores, not even a Target, this presents a huge challenge for the “nothing to wear I need a last minute outfit” days. There is of course, as any small town has, Wal-Mart. I know, I know…. Yuck.
So one day a couple of years ago, I was heading to Atlanta for a day of shopping with a friend. We were going to meet up with another friend, have lunch at Bluepointe, then spend the afternoon at shopping in Buckhead.
So of course I had nothing to wear. I finally was able to put something together, but I needed a white button up blouse to complete the ensemble. So I headed out to Wal-Mart where I found a suitable shirt. It was just a white button up, with a little ribbing.
We had a great lunch, then headed to Neiman’s to get this. Then we headed over to Phipp’s Plaza to go to Jeffery’s and Jil Sander.

Jeffrey’s founder Jeffrey Kalinsky is the purveyor of two successful luxury specialty stores, Jeffrey New York and Jeffrey Atlanta.

Jeffrey is a fashion icon, he was raised in retail. He got started in his father’s shoe store, Bob Ellis Shoes, in Charleston, SC. From what I understand his New York store was one of the first specialty boutiques in what is now the very hip, meat packing district. This was even parodied by Jimmy Fallon, Sean Hayes, and Will Ferrell on Saturday Night Live. See the skit here.

So anyway.. when we arrived at Jeffrey’s, we were surprised to discover that Jeffrey was in the store. Normally I I guess he is out traveling the world. My two friends actually know Jeffrey, they have been long time customers of his. He was so happy to see them, and he greeted my friends warmly. They then introduced me to Jeffrey, at which time he said, ” I loove that shirt!”
Oh my.. I was could not believe that Jeffrey Kalinsky complemented my shirt, a shirt from Walmart. Surrounded by a sea of crocodile Manolo Blahnik pumps and patent leather Prada bags, Jeffrey liked my shirt.
Life is funny sometimes…
